NEW ASSOCIATE PRIEST AND CHAPLAIN FOR MISSION:
THE REVEREND SIMON R. YOUNG
The Reverend Simon R. Young was licensed as Associate Priest and Chaplain for Mission to the Benefice of Milton Regis with Murston, Bapchild and Tonge on Thursday 6 June 2019. Simon has taken an unusual path into ordained ministry. He was ordained deacon in Rochester Cathedral in 1999, but after a year in parish ministry, took a detour which found him working in a children’s home for three years before training as a teacher. He worked for ten happy years as a class teacher at Cheriton Primary School near Folkestone, but midway through this time, the call to ordained ministry stirred his heart again. Encouraged by his parish priest, Simon was Licensed as a self-supporting deacon in July 2014, serving in the Parish of St Michael and All Angels, Kingsnorth, Ashford for a year. In July 2015, Simon was ordained priest and began a curacy in what is now the Benefice of Faversham. Simon is married to Marcia and they have a son, Robert, and a daughter, Lucy. Simon’s interests include music of many genres (the Beach Boys being a favourite), fiction and poetry. He is proud of his family roots in Scotland and Cornwall, but has come to love the county of Kent. We welcome Simon and his family to the benefice!
